Helpful Ways Porn Assists You

Publications, news reports and surveys tell us mendaciously that porn consumption is damaging to our mental and physical health, as well as being ‘suicidal’ to our relationships. I call bull shit… or at least, bull shit to a certain degree. Whilst doing some research, I stumbled across Debby Herbenick, author of ‘Sex Made Easy’, who made a significant quote in an interview that I just couldn’t get out of my head… “I’m always a bit weary when I hear people say that porn does anything specific unless they’re willing to say what type of porn they mean and under what circumstances”. Hell to the fucking yeah… *Slow claps*.

Doing an excessive amount of anything is unhealthy, not just consuming too much porn, yet we are told frequently in articles and reports that we’re damaging our health by erotically stimulating our brains and our genitals with some erotic images. Hilariously, Cosmopolitan wrote an article in 2014 with ‘supporting’ evidence which shows porn is ruining sex and that porn damages women’s confidence, which is rich coming from a magazine who’s current three top articles are: “So here is EXACTLY what Jessica Alba eats in a day”, “This is the real reason why Khloe Kardashian photoshopped her leg”, and “9 reasons why you should never eat mac n cheese”… Enough said.

The truth is, I never really knew what or who I was into until I started watching porn. It’s helped me with getting to know ‘thyself’. It showed me women who were also sexually attracted to other women in girl on girl action. It gave me knew ideas to start experimenting with my girlfriend…  Whilst I’m sure you enjoyed my heartwarming tale of my porn consumption, I’m sure you all can agree it’s helped define you sexually at some point.

Sure. Anyone can see that mainstream porn (as well as most ((if not all)) media) shows us unrealistic aesthetics and expectations. That’s something worth noting. But how about we take the more constructive route, where we look at how porn can actually be GOOD for a relationship. Watching porn doesn’t have to ruin your confidence and sex life, and under the right circumstances and in the right frame of mind, can do wonders for your sex life. Trust me. Fantasy is part of a healthy sex life, where porn adds depth to your own personal vault of scenarios in your head. It can help to inspire couples to experiment more in and out of the bedroom.

I’ve compiled a list of reasons of why I think EVERY couple/EVERYONE should introduce porn into their bedrooms:

  1. Masturbating is healthy. Sex is healthy. If pornography or watching something which is stimulating helps you to do either of these things – you should do it. Why deny yourself that right? Just like how after I read “9 reasons why you should never eat Mac n Cheese” I thought “mmmmm, Mac n Cheese” and decided to cook that for dinner tomorrow night. I like Mac n Cheese, I work hard, I deserve to be able to eat Mac n Cheese. You like porn, you work hard, you deserve to be able to watch porn, no matter what shitty Cosmopolitan tells you.
  2. It’s an easy way to learn more about your own/your partners sexual fantasies. Get to know what you and your partner are into. Get to know what you would like to try with your partner. Sometimes it’s not easy for someone to turn around and say “hey, would you want to try anal?”. Try by simply suggesting a video of that theme for the night, and see where the conversation leads you. You’ll be surprised!
  3. GET IDEAS. My favorite part about watching porn with my girlfriend is getting ideas. I remember seeing videos and thinking “But that’s so god damn simple, why have we never thought of doing that before????!”. Try new things. Sex with your partner should be fun and exciting – learn new things about each other!
  4. Masturbating with someone else is incredibly sexy. I’ve previously written before about the benefits of mutual masturbation. Its fun, feels spontaneous and can be a massive turn on. Take a break from trying to please each other and what each other please yourselves. #couplesthatmasturbatetogetherstaytogether
